Great set there I have seen those feathers over the 4th Glams before..... I shall make sure that I buy the next one I see. Are they looped at the back... any chance of a back image?

Admired your waist belt clasp, I have a similar example but in white metal which I would date as slightly later to yours. Yours in interesting as well due to the extra fret work on the ends, I have this on a few other clasps (to other regiments) and would class as being early manufacture of superior quality.
Yours I notice is missing the "ICH" "DIEN" scrolls on the feathers, my example still retains them, but they are often missing. I can just see on your clasp the marks where they would have been. Last edited by stenoyab; 23-07-17 at 11:48 AM. |

Some nice badges there. Like the bando sticks (Glamorgan/Welsh team sport/game mainly played early/mid 1800's) on the Margam badge. Jonathan |

The prominence of the game in Margam, west Glamorgan, is celebrated in a nineteenth-century ballad entitled The Margam Bando Boys. This was also the year in which the Margam Volunteer Rifle Corps was formed. All the Margam Bando Boys followed their team captain Theodore Talbot into the Margam Volunteer Rifle Corps, which was formed in 1859. The badge design of this organisation included two crossed bandies or bando sticks.
Due praises I'll bestow And all the world shall know That Margam valour shall keep its colour When Kenfig's waters flow Our master, straight and tall Is foremost with the ball; He is, we know it, and must allow it, The fastest man of all Let cricket players blame, And seek to slight our fame, Their bat and wicket can never lick it, This ancient manly game Our fame shall always stand Throughout Britannia's land; What men can beat us? Who dare meet us? Upon old Kenfig's sand? Should Frenchmen raise a voice To crush our peaceful joys, They'll get by storming a precious warming From Margam bando boys Like lions we'll advance To charge the sons of France; The Straits of Dover we'll ferry over And make the traitors dance Napoleon shall repent, If war is his intent; He'll sadly rue it if he'll pursue it; Proud Paris shall lament Bold Britons rule the main, And every hill and plain, From every nation throughout creation Our rights we will maintain https://museum.wales/articles/2010-0...nt-manly-game/

Your Third officers is interesting, its the 3rd variation I've seen, in the recent DNW auction (July 2017) they had a third officers with a smooth centre behind the dragon.
I have a 3rd officers with the centre the same as yours but the dragon in brass/gilt (see the very bottom examples on my Welsh regiment page) http://jeffreyhayes.com/wbc/2017/05/...elsh-regiment/ Last edited by stenoyab; 23-07-17 at 08:50 PM. |
