Default Tiptaft Badge

Hi all. I have no experience of ANZAC badges but I recently got this badge attached to a British slouch hat (posted in a separate thread). I am wondering if the badge is OK or not. In hand, for me at least, it "feels right" but I am basing this on what little I know about British badges and I know these are a minefield. Sorry about the low resolution pics, but is all the forum uploader would let me do.

Any comments would be welcome.

Cheers.

Looks fine and quite valuable, they can fetch £100.

Seriously? Didnt realise they were so valuable. I have been after a WW1 ANZAC badge but had never seriously looked into it, so i'm quite happy to have got one in this unexpected way. Cheers.

Hi Andy,
You will see from my numbers of posts that I am also new to badges so please excuse my lack of knowledge. What makes this badge worth £100 when others of a similar design are only a few £’s?
Thanks
Andrew

This is a British made Rising Sun badge.

As to why its worth so much, I suspect its because Tiptaft didn't make many of them.

I personally don't think its worth anywhere near that myself (I certainly wouldn't pay that much) as I don't consider it to be anything too special.

Lots of Rising Sun badges were made during WW1.

Mick

The quality of these tiptaft badges is normally far better than others and some with tiptaft also on the badge itself, they may have been a private purchase item as you don't see many, I paid £15 for a double mm one 20 years ago and was the only one that I'd seen when you could pick up others for £2-3 and another single slider marked about 2 years ago the same amount.

hi spitace
as already mentioned its a english made rising sun. its interesting to see the mark on the slider as they also come with the markings on the back of the badge solely and both markings on the slider and back of badge.
prices have dropped dramatically for these badges. as andy said they used to bring up to £100 but these days its more like half that.
either way its a nice example so well done on your find

Thanks for the comments guys. I am very happy to add this to my collection as I only paid £20 for the hat that this was attached to. Pricewise, having looked on Ebay (not always the most reliable I know), the average price appears to be around £50. I guess this is irrelevant though as it will be staying in the collection

Hi Spitace, here's the badge Badgecollector mentioned for reference with both markings.

Regards

Simon.

What makes these extremely rare rather than rare?

In view of reading various posts concerning whether Tiptaft badges were worn exclusively or not by Light Horse, may I ask if a unit would really have its complement wearing badges with differing finishes? (blackened brass. blackened copper, black bronze, bronze, etc)
My only Tiptaft badge (slidered) is blackened copper; my LHB title is copper face with black back
