Badge worn by RTR soldier, Korea
Hi!
Apologies if this is in the wrong section. I hope that someone can identify a couple of badges worn by soldiers in the link below all from the LIFE archive (which is a great resource, shame the search function is so bad). Firstly, the pocket badge of this RTR soldier: http://images.google.com/hosted/life...53f008c92.html Secondly, the badges worn on the sleve of this soldier (same unit I assume): http://images.google.com/hosted/life...200d0021d.html Many thanks, BP

By the time of the outbreak of the Korean War 79 Armd Div had been disbanded for over four years. However the same formation sign was adopted post-War by the Specialised Armour Training Establishment, RAC. It is to this unit that the soldier in the photograph would have belonged. I believe some Churchill tank-mounted specialised armoured equipments were sent to Korea - just in case.

Any ideas about the pocket badge?

Hi BP,
The pocket badge looks to me to be the distinctive unit insignia for the US 27th Infantry Regiment. This regiment was part of the US 25th Infantry Division. It's a wolf's head. Was this individual a member of a unit attached to the 25th? If so that may explain the pin. Try Googling the 27th infantry regiment. Don
