Airborne RHA Battle Dress
I have recently been shown this RHA badged Airborne BD which I assume relates to 7 RHA. I have never seen brass titles cut/shaped as they are on this example and the red-backed signals badge is also unusual.
Can anyone confirm my identification of 7th RHA and say if they have seen this type of brass title before? Jon |

I suspect that the Staff Sgt has just jazzed up (or blinged) his best battledress. It will have taken hours to cut the "v" into the letters so many times, not to mention ebroidered rather than printed "Peggy", white blancoed sgt stripes and lanyard, bulled brass crowns and an unofficially enhanced pair of brass sigs flags.
I like it, is there a name? Ian H |

Might've been worn walking out, or if attached to another unit.

The shoulder titles are typical of some worn during WW1.
7 RHA became Airborne in 1961. More likely to be 289th Parachute Light Regiment, Royal Artillery (TA) 1956 - 1977, became RHA in 1960. Marc

Out of curiosity would an RHA staff sergeant not have been wearing 'guns' above his chevrons, and his lanyard is on the left arm.

Marc,
That makes sense as I have always believed that the APJI badge was only worn by the TA and the unusual title and signals badge would also support your identification of it as a TA BD. Many thanks, Jon |

Does the Signal flags badge placed on the stripes make him a Signals instructor?

I know of at least one regular Parachute Regiment SNCO - Rex Strong - wearing APJI wings in 1977.
