Polish Badge Question
I picked this up because it looked a lot like the Free Polish 1st Armoured Divisions sign.
It must be fairly modern, since the spinner says it was made in Częstochowa, a city in southern Poland. Also, would a King have been the subject of a badge in the communist era?. Having had a quick google I see that it commemorates the Siege of Vienna in 1683 when the Polish King John Sobieski and the Polish cavalry helped defeat the Ottomans. "John III Sobieski led the charge at the head of 3,000 Polish heavy lancers, the famed "Winged Hussars". ... The cavalry charge was one last deadly blow. Less than three hours after the cavalry attack, the Christian forces had won the battle and saved Vienna". My question is, is/was this badge worn by a modern Polish cavalry unit, or is it more of a tourist/souvenir type of item?
