This was made for a movie post war. Unit never existed, even as a ghost. This maybe a good example of 18th Air Force.

This is heavily reproduced. This is very likely a reproduction. Be very leary of special forces patches from Vietnam.

Update - Total fake, made in Vietnam.

Regarding the 18th AF, snip a piece of the white bobbin thread off the back and burn test it. If it burns quickly with an ashy residue and burnt hair like smell, it is ok.
If it burns into a tiny hard ball and smells of burnt plastic, it is bad.
I ask this as the appearance of the white bobbin thread on back is typical of the fake patches; slightly different from the almost off white snowy appearance of cotton thread. The burn test will verify however.

Hi Dave

This patch had been a mystery for years.

Firstly there was never 18th Army Air Force during WWII so the description is incorrect.
There was a short lived 18th Air Force c1951 which this a completely different design.

However this made and it was for a movie, something like invasion from Mars c mid to late 40's.

It was discussed on another forum.

I've collected US insignia for many years. SSI's, WW2 to modern, pocket, rank, cap and beret badges as well as trade badges, I have thousands of cloth and over 5,000 DUIs. Almost all Army, but lots of USAF spec ops, heli, rescue, aerial port and airlift. A few USN spec ops, diver, EOD, and almost every USMC WW2 to present.
I'm normal, everybody else is mad!
PM sent ref wants.

Update I’ve had a conversation today with one of the forum members, and sent the following pictures. He seems to think that some of the badges are nice Badges especially the woman’s auxiliary ferry patch
