Interesting. The officers' pugarees are white, while the other ranks are French grey. The French grey derives from the battle patch of 3 Canadian Division worn by the PPCLI during the First WW.

I'm more interested in knowing how many women are serving in the non-commissioned ranks of the PPCLI as infanteers.

I recently attended the 2 RCR Change of Command parade in Fredericton, and spotted several females on parade, including one officer. Also, perhaps even more surprising than seeing a female infantry officer, was seeing a female Warrant Officer wearing the RCR cap badge!

Interesting point, Women soldiers transferred from the WRAC into the Corps in 1992 and some of the Corps since that date (and before) have mounted guard at Windsor Castle & Buckingham Plaice but have always used only Male Soldiers & Officers as far as I am aware, because of precedence or prejudice of the Guards or whatever I do not know, but no Corps have certainly not used Female Officers in 25 years that it has been possible to do so?

The other thing I have a question about is, the two M/Cpls either side of the colour at Port Arms. Is this a PPCLI procedure? I have never seen that before.

It is a pin representing the Commander in Chief commendation. It is presented to units as a whole and is worn on the right breast. The contingent from 2 PPCLI were awarded a unit commendation for the ceremony.

The contingent from 2PPCLI were not awarded a unit commendation for the ceremony, but for their actions at the Medak Pocket, 1993. The Bn as a whole wears it.

"CinC Unit Commendations are restricted to war or war-like conditions in an active theatre of operations."

2nd Battalion Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry Battle Group Shilo, Manitoba

"The 2nd Battalion Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry Battle Group (2PPCLI BG) is awarded the Commendation for courageous and professional execution of duty during the Medak Pocket Operation in the Former Yugoslavia in September 1993. Under conditions of extreme peril and hazard, facing enemy artillery, small arms and heavy machine gun fire as well as anti-tank and anti-personnel mines, the members of the 2PPCLI BG held their ground and drove the Croatian forces back. The exemplary action of the 2PPCLI BG caused the Croatian Army to cease their ongoing tactics of "ethnic cleansing" in the sector, without question saving many innocent civilian lives."

"The insignia will be worn for life by members of the unit or persons attached to the unit, on duty and directly involved in the action for which the Commander-in-Chief Unit Commendation has been awarded. Individuals posted to the unit after the award of the Commendation may only wear the insignia during their affectation with the honoured unit."
