His 'Author' profile on Amazon states :

Many thanks to every one who has come back on this Thread regarding the TOS and badge.

As you say Reid I do show this exact badge on my little site and the only detail I had when I did the write up was from the Adjutant of 32 (Scottish) Signal Regiment from 1981/82 namely Captain Ewan Cameron. He advised me as I have said that there was no Saltire behind the badge in his day up to the end of 1982.

Lt Col Culley was Co of the Regiment from 1984 to 1986. I do not know when he started to wear the badge with the Saltire and as I mentioned in my write up it was from approximately 1988 but I am more than happy to accept it was possibly from 1986.

I agree with you Reid with still a short period of time to go before the end of the auction for the TOS and the Glengarry they will go for a good price. I tend to think people are keeping their powder dry at present. It will be most interesting to see the final outcome.

For your benefit Reid I will not be bidding on these items so one less person for you to worry about.

To me the badge has a "locally made" look to it, a R Sigs two part badge attached to a cast saltire and garter of a far different quality, the original of which may have had wording around it?

Interesting Leigh,if Col Culley was the 1st person to wear it then he could.have had it made up. Im wondering if the saltire is the same as the used on the Lowland Bde/Vols badge ?

I think the saltire and the two part R Sigs elements were originally seperate badges with the garter being a rather rough "homemade" quality casting or some other form of badge with central device and wordingon the garter removed, the pieces put together to form the badges shown on the tam and the glengarry.
The garter appears to have had a central device which has been removed leaving scarring inside the top of the garter on the tam.
These badges look a very strange put together - which doesn't mean to say that they're not what Lt Col Culley wore.
You could well be right re. the Lowland Brigade badge donating the saltire.

The one on the tam has a rough area to the garter below the crown which the two you show don't appear to have, the right hand of those two appears to be of better quality, is this the norm for these badges, an indication of a very limited run of put together by a workshop?

Just for info, the badge shown in R Hodge's "British Army Badges" ( published 2005), "32nd Scottish Signals Regiment cast brass and chrome officer's Glengarry badge 5 x 6 cm."
It's noted that all officer's and senior ranks wear a "special" badge, presumably this one.

The link may list him as "Cully" but in the July 1984 edition of The Wire (Royal Signals magazine), Lt Col H.A. Culley is identified as taking command of 32 Sig Regt (V). (Go to page 225 of the pdf)

Photos of him in the Nov 84 edition (page 354) show him wearing beret.

Subsequent years of The Wire also have photos of him wearing beret.
