Default Cheshire Regiment.

Is it possible, from this image to identify the rank of the sitting soldier?
I assume he's an officer, as he is wearing the smaller size cap badge, however I have seen a Sergeant to this regiment with this badge.
Any thoughts Tony.

Tony
I suspect that he’s a Warrant Officer. In some infantry regiments (The Duke of Wellingtons Regiment for example) Warrant Officers wear officers pattern beret badges. The absence of any rank insignia on his shoulder slip ons would support this theory

Cheshire Regiment officer's bullion embroidered badge which is quite small.

Could it be the soldiers embroidered beret badge?

He’s definitely a warrant officer, as explained by Tony (I saw the badge in wear on numerous occasions). Incidentally you can discern the full size a/a badge on the other soldier’s beret worn by the little girl.
