Here's an original flaw for you
There are three types of this (unauthorised) Foreign Service badge – the first was made by Gaunt – and mostly marked. The other two are distinctly different and without any manufacturer’s name (or flaws). Their floruit is approximately 1896 to 1926 when the WO ordered all King’s badges were to conform to Pattern 10042/1926.
The flaw appears on the Gaunt badges – a blob lower right of letter N of the name KINGS on the scroll die. It looks as though the die had been bashed providing the raised ‘blob’ on the front of the scroll. It appears on badges with loops or with sliders. As always - excuse the photograph Last edited by KLR; 03-08-20 at 08:17 AM. Reason: photograph! |
