WW2 buttons
Good evening all.
My name is Paul and I am a newbie in this forum.
Many years ago I inherited from my granddad his webbing belt adorned with 72 assorted buttons, pips and small badges. All collected (So the family legend goes) in various POW camps during WW2 as payment, in lieu of the more favoured cigarettes, for his service as a camp barber. For many, many years it has been one of my more treasured possessions, purely because of the family connection. But late last year, the original stringing which held the buttons in place finally became so old and frail that I had to re-string them. So I decided that I would attempt to identify them all as I worked. I have managed several of them, but there are still quite a few that are a mystery to me. I believe there are examples from at least 17 different nations from all arms of service plus a few civilian services represented on the belt, and wonder if there are any kind people out there that could help me fill in the blanks.... I have attached a series of photos that show the belt, the numbered template I used to make sure they all went back on in the same places and the listing of what I know about each one..
I hope you enjoy having a look at it.
Best regards
Paul.....
