Default WW2 find - help to ID

Hi guys

Came across this when going through some old boxes.
I assume it came with a lot of books my Father purchased back in the day.
It's obviously German, but does the info on the front mean anything to anyone?
There are 10 blackened, spent cartridges inside. Is it possible to tell anything about what pistol/revolver this was for?

Thanks

Colin

A box for pistol ammunition. I think '08' refers to the Luger pistol, oxo is the factory code, (not hugs and kisses), for Teuto-Metallwerke GmbH, Osnabruck. The cases are laquered steel, saving on brass.

Thanks Lee!

I guess it's pretty common then. Does anyone collect this sort of thing?

Hello Colin

I believe the headstamp markings on the cartridge case itself indicate the date of manufacture '41', the manufacturer Dynamit A-G Empelde, Hannover, Germany, the 'emp' (the firm changed to this mark in mid-1940, previously having used 'dng'), steel case 'St' and '9' for the calibre, 9mm. Info from 'The Cartridge Guide' by Ian V Hogg.

Not unusually it would seem that this used case is from a different manufacturer to the original cartridges in the box. Are they all marked the same?

Whilst the used cartridges are quite common, the box is, I suspect, very collectable if you can find the right buyer, especially as it appears to have the original card insert!

Regards
Roger

Hi Roger

Thanks for the reply! Very interesting.
The cartridges are all marked the same.

Funny what turns up when going through old boxes

Cheers

Colin
