The Zambia Police badge is very similar in design. Differences being the bird is more in a flying position and no fish in talon's, waterfall still present.

Default Northern Rhodesia Police

Evening gents

I picked up this Northern Rhodesia Police button at an antiques fair on Saturday, thought it was a nice find. It measures c. 23-24mm and is in brass or GM. I’m guessing this is the 1913-19 issue that ‘1314’ (sorry, I don’t know your name) mentions?

Thank you Andrew, it made battling with the rail-replacement buses worthwhile.

Nice find, you have to like the African flora and or fauna imagery on pieces from this era.

Best

Jack

Absolutely - I once had badges from the Tanganyika Police (giraffe) and Gold Coast Police (elephant) - both long traded - that I now regret getting rid of. They had a certain charm and the designer/s seem to have known something of the culture and cared enough to represent it on the badges, unlike a lot of badges today (especially UK police) which are a bit 'meh', as teenagers would say.

Thanks for sharing Dave, another fabulous collection (OK I am a bit jealous).

A couple of years ago I'm positive I saw a photo online of a cap or collar badge with the same design as my button. I know there is a Northern Rhodesia Regt badge of the same design with a Latin motto on the scroll, but I'm 99% sure this said "Northern Rhodesia Police" - and I don't think it was wishfull thinking as I hadn't (re-)started collecting then. Am I right or mistaken?

Hi Graham, I had one sometime back. You get the cap and collars(all the same size) with the Northern Rhodesia Police on. Dave , wow, nice collection.

Graham,

I think Andrew has answered your question. That said I've never had the opportunity to lay hands on them.

Best wishes to you both,

Dave.

Hi Graham,

Is this the pattern that you are thinking of?

Regards,

Zob.

Hi Zob

That's the one, glad my memory wasn't playing tricks. Nice set, thanks for posting.

Very nice Zob. The one I had, had a pin on for a slouch hat. It was the same size as a collar. Regards Andrew

Default Northern Rhodesia Police button

Afternoon gents

A 16mm version of the Northern Rhodesia Police button I posted above arrived today, I notice that the 'crested crane' faces the opposite way - does that mean they were worn on the righthand side of the uniform? Or at a different time to the other one (24mm - reposted for reference)? Either way, I'm happy to have them .
