Smile hi all just joined

Hi just joined the Military badge forum. It all started Tuesday evening not much on the box so lets get down the cap badges. They had been hid away for ten years all safe and dry as i throught, when opening the box i found that most of them had gone green i understand that different badges react with each other making a small electric charge.I have about 1,000 badges all of them i believe to be original.I have had many since the 1950 when i used to swap them at school.I found that one mars bar would seal the deal.I started collecting again strong in the 80s,i use to visit many arms fairs i used to try to buy the best i could afford i do not tend to go for any particular badge if i like the look of it i will try and buy it.I have never brought any thing of of ebay yet but may try,i dont think you can beat having a badge in your hand.P.S. back to the kitchen sink to try and clean a few more before bed all the best Pete.

Default vinegar, for Pete's sake

Pete: Toss a couple in a bowl of regular vinegar & let them soak for a minute then have at them with a soft toothbrush and some dish soap and running water. Best cleaning agent I've found for brass, gilt & white metal badges, & it kills verdigris and flux stains dead.

If the verdigris is heavy, you may need to pop them back in the bath a couple of times to loosen it all up.

Don't use this on straight copper badges -- they get too clean & will look like mint fresh pennies (you'll notice that on the copper lugs of the ones you clean this way).

BTW: welcome to the BMBF
