Hereford Light Infantry! Fake spotting guide!
Here is my guide to how to spot a Good badge from a Copy. As always purely my observations, but having seen Dave C steered to a bad one by a Moderator here on the Forum a while back (no apology either! - Shame on you moderators sometimes! lol ) I thought I'd post for all to use or ignore!
Pic 1. - Copy (left) - Genuine (right). Pic 2. - Copy Pic 3. - Genuine Pic 4. - Genuine Badge's slider - a Good Small Gaunt London - no full stop. Pic 5. - Rear of Copy. (continued in next post) |

They are quite difficult to tell apart, there are not huge differences to the strikes and the reverse detail to both is good. The copy shown has some age to it as well!
I have identified three quick pointers, that if remembered should quickly ID a fake! Genuine (Pic 1.) Sword - Very fat where it joins the hilt and straight. Tail - Thin tassle to end which rests/joins along bottom edge. Face - Small eyes, narrow and serious (just like the King of the Jungle should be) Copy (Pic 2.) Sword - Thin and often with a bend. Tail - Wide tassle to end which rests/joins at it's tip only. Face - Wide eyes with bags under them (just like the white hunter has popped something up his jacksie) There are other details, like the bugle cords and tassles which are thiner and far more detailed on the genuine badge. Also the lettering to the Cartouch is finer on the good badge. Hope this is of use! Andy |
