Naval Aviation Related Cap Tallies
Hi all, can anyone out there tell me a little about these three cap tallies? (and yes I know the RFC & RNAS tallies are reproduction!) but at what time in history were they worn and by who? Does the RNAS tally stand for Royal Naval Air Service or the later Royal Naval Air Station? The only information I have on the RFC tally is the small paragraph below from the book Naval Cap tallies by Wayne Mitchell! but who exactly wore them ?
Lastly the FAA tally, what time period is this from and who would have worn it? Any information would be of interest and photos/images of the tallies being worn would be very interesting! Regards Tony |

Hi Tony
ROYAL FLYING CORPS worn during WW1 very few genunine ones around RNAS Royal Naval Air Service again worn during WW1 by ratings in fact RNAS was never worn it was always worn as Royal Naval Air Service and I have only seen one genunine one in over 40 years of collecting FAA Interesting one this as it was worn during WW11 on air stations by ratings including wrns (wrens) finished about 1950's on stations. However it was worn from that date and is still worn by members of the Field Gun Competion Crew when they do there displays Trust this helps David |

I have one photograph of a rating in "square rig", with a group of other RNAS ratings in class 3 rig. The rating is wearing a RNAS cap tally.
Fleet Air Arm ratings under training in HMS SULTAN (Marine and Air Engineering School) wear FLEET AIR ARM cap tallies |
