Camel Collar badge
Hello all,
what are your thoughts on this badge. It's die struck I thought they were all sand cast and made in Egypt ?? |

I thought the same - personally, this is one badge that I wouldn't touch as there are many fakes in existence unless of course it came with some providence.

you are so wrong. there were die struck camel corps badges, i have one (will try and dig it out and post a pic) and a very good friend of mine has his grandfathers that is also struck. now thats not to say this is a good badge that you have pictured. the 2 i refer to are not flat backed but obviously had a male and femal die bc |

Slick if you notice 2 guys are running up the bids. That badge suppose to be out of his Grandfathers collection in which he stopped in the 70's.These badges were unoffical and as i said earlier I was led to believe they were only made while the guy's served in Egypt and were sand cast I have seen about 10 ( hat and collar) and all were sand cast some good and average finishes. So I would like to see photo's of the one's badgecollector talked about.

We have had a number of earlier threads on Camel Corps badges which would answer some of these questions, including illustrations. I would not touch the flat back crowned badge myself, a totally different die to the ones I have had for many years. It seems passing strange that one should suddenly turn up at this late stage.
There were FOUR different genuine ACC rising suns IMHO: 1. Large sand cast brass hat badge with camel facing to right 2. Similar design collar badge 3. Collar badge die-struck with crown (similar to the one illustrated) but not flat back, different detail to crown, camel facing to left 4. Collar badge diestruck copper without crown as BC's scans, camel facing to left. Never seen a maker mark. |
