He appears to be wearing a South African Mounted Rifles cap badge. Presumably he was seconded to the SANLC.

Is it not a SA Mounted Rifles badge? Not SALH?

Good heavens, I think it can be said with rather more than a degree of certainty, that he is not wearing an SALH badge!

Ah.. That explains it. I thought I had missed something somewhere.
I was just surprised to see the chap wearing the SA Mounted Riflemen badge on his cap as all the pictures I've seen before officers att'd to the Native Labour Corps always wore the normal "goat-in-porthole" badge.

I have the medals to Louis Caminada and he was first in the Natal Police, then the 3rd SAMR and then the SANLC in WWI
