Default Royal Flying Corps, please help

Hi, I am not sure what I am looking at here, being somewhat inexperienced.
Is this a cap badge that has been converted to a ‘sweetheart ‘ pin?
Thank you for your help.
Mike

I would suggest, an original cap badge too!

May have lost bottom left of 'F' as viewed, though looking at reverse seems it may have lacked the 'fork' at the bottom of the letter. Regards, Paul. There seem to have been a fair number of badges about like this- perhaps they were bought and converted in bulk? Regards, Paul.
After looking at other examples on the forum- It seems the incomplete bottom of F fork is a variation.
