B/D blouse but what date?
Hi, got this blouse in auction yesterday, purely because it was in such good condition but there are no stamps on it to see when it was issued, only the month stamp on the label. Any ideas why there is no issue stamp i.e. date code etc.? Any help appreciated thanks in advance Mike

Perhaps I'm missing something but the middle photo shows the label which states '1940 Pattern' and gives a '1941' date. Or did you want the specific date of issue? I don't think all BDs necessarily had dates of issue.

Hi, I assumed the April 1941 was the manufacture date, I wondered why there was no issue stamp. Must learn to express myself better, thanks for the replies best wishes Mike

Certainly manufactured sometime between 1940 and autumn 1942 when the austerity version of the 1940 pattern was introduced which has exposed buttons on front and pockets.
I always wondered if this type of makers label that has the date as part of the manufacture are in fact the date they were made, or the date the company started making them, though the ink stamp April would be the month in which it was made and 1941 seems likely, but still some uncertainty unless someones knows this for certain? The issue stamps are sometimes behind the pockets, if it has them.

The items we made for the MOD had to have the date of year of manufacture on them not the year they left us, any of the pre engraved aluminium labels left over where put in the skip the first day back after Christmas and not allowed to be found in the factory even if we wanted to use them for another purpose like a scraper etc, we also had a shot blasting etching machine with a rubber stencil that also gave the month of manufacture as well as year which was changed every month even if we wasn't making these items.
