Default Royal Malta Fencible???

Bought this on a whim!! Fabricated with a soldered scroll stating RMFRt. (Royal Malta Fencible Regiment) 1824. The centre is voided but could make up some faint scarring at the top and bottom. Crown is Imperial which does not correspond with the date on the scroll!! Maybe commemorative?

Any ideas?? Would anyone know if there's a similar (other regiment!) badge out there from were this badge originated?

Any thoughts and opinions are greatly welcomed.
