School of Infantry Demonstration Battalion
Hi all, Below my latest acquisition, a School of Infantry patch. Anyone know much about this patch? I served in the School of Infantry Demonstration Battalion in 1989, attached to the 1 Bn Royal Regiment of Wales at Battlebury barracks Warminster (as part of Ex Winter concept). However we didn't wear any distinguishing insignia other than normal regimental insignia, which at that time was mainly your cap badge! Would be interested when this patch was worn and by which units? I believe the Demo Bn was at one time a composite battalion of many cap badges?

It was worn in the early to mid 1980s, so before your time.....
Worn on the right shoulder of DPM smocks if I recall correctly. |

Can`t comment on the wearing of the patch but I was with the Demo Sqn (A Sqn 3RTR) in the late 70`s and the Demo Battalion was a composite mix of all infantry units and I suspect Battalions shed all the units "problem children" to fill the ERE posts. Saying that the Gurkhas were a good professional platoon who we enjoyed working with on Demonstrations and Exercises. Kevin |
