RAC Yacht Club badge - is this credible?

I've had this badge for some time; I believe it must be a badge for the RAC Yacht Club, however it seems that it must have been worn naval fashion on a white? peaked cap. Has anyone any experience of this being worn and, if so, who would have worn it and when? Incidentally I guess, if genuine, it would be quite a rare item.
