Default Royal Artillery Badge (Cont:-)

To continue in the correct section.. Can anyone identify the badge?

It is pressed tin or silver. There are no markings. There were 2 mounting pins on the reverse (now broken off). One was in the centre, the other was where the carriage meets the ground at the rear of the gun

I hope this works

That's nice Alan, from the front. Got a pic for the back.

look like the remains of a brooch fitting on each end of the ground?

maybe used to be two lugs or threads.

an earlier pattern pouch badge?

After seeing the Pouch Badge example by 'crwhb'. I reckon this could be an earlier pattern.

There you go Alan. Just to let you know. When you type a new message on the thread. Look at the tool bat above. You'll see a paperclip, click on this and follow the prompts to attach images; rather than embedding them.

Regards

Simon.

Of course, don't forget manufacturers' variations - you can't expect identical detail from every maker. Ths design is typical of the pouch badge used before the adoption of the 'cap badge' style with bolts. Gilt (often fire gilt) for regulars and silver plate for volunteers. Desirable to RA collectors as it is possible to show many different variants. David
