EARLY PTI INSIGNIA
These two PTI badges would appear to be from the early days of the RAF. I assume the example with the red eagle dates from 1918. My question is when was the other one in use.
Kind regards, Malcolm. |

Early PTI Insignia
Hi,
My understanding is that both badges were introduced in 1918 and were worn on both arms, directly above rank badges so they would be 'handed pairs' with the eagle facing rearwards. There were two versions, the red embroidered one for khaki uniforms and one for blue uniforms. It was replaced in 1923 with the three arms/Indian clubs design and was then only worn on the right arm. |

Hello BB.
Many thanks for the extremely helpful reply. Greatly appreciated. I am slowly building a small collection of early flying insignia, but only those items worn by those who flew. I doubt there were many flying PTIs! Kind regards, Malcolm. |
