Default Trams, Police, or something else?

I bought this photo because I liked it, but I have no idea what the sitter was employed as.
Although the photo was described as 'Police' it could be Trams etc
Any ideas?
Billyh

The badges do suggest Corporation/ trams...are there any photographers details on the rear?

Nothing on the back that would be helpful. Looks like I will have a long journey through a trams archive I know of.
Thanks
Billyh

Billy,

He appears to be a member of the Greenock Burgh Police. I have some examples of their badges somewhere. I'll dig them out. Here is the pre. 1930's cap and epaulette badge. The example shown is in white metal. In circa. 1935, they adopted the Scottish National "Semper Vigilo" cap badge. The badge shown was retained as an epaulette badge (as shown being worn in the photo). That badge continued to be worn in chrome until the demise of the force in 1967.

Dave.

Yes you're spot on there Dave. The photo must date to around 20's 30's period then. I have that copy of Scottish Police badges which I'll have a look at, when I can find where my wife has put it!
Thanks again Dave
