Tentative timeline range is August 1950 when I have been informed one of the Birmingham University badges was 'sealed' and approx. 2005 when the changeover to new form badges was well under way.

The lack of manufacturing dates is leaving a big hole in my research so any information would be appreciated.

I'm not a native English speaker, so I probably am completely wrong here, but I would like to suggest the term embellishment instead of item.
Item suggests to me being an integral part of. Embellishment to me is more like something attached to, instead of being an integral part of.
Maybe someone with a more precise knowledge of the English language than mine might be able to confirm this point of view?
