Camel and palm badge
Simon,
This resembles the cap badge of the Mekram Militia of the North West Frontier Province, once India now Pakistan. I think British officers on loan commanded some of these units. It might be a sweetheart that an officer has had made for his wife, that reflects his loan service from a Staffs regiment to the Mekram Militia. Just a thought. George |

925 is mark for silver not gold

The Mekram Militia badge is rather different (although a camel and a palm tree are part of it), thus it is not an amalgam of a Mekram Militia badge with a Staffordshire one.

I have seen one before - suggesting that the original (this seems a later version) was made in Cairo in WW2 for some officers of the Staffordshire Yeomanry to send home. Will check with the museum.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions and hopefully a reply from the museum.
It is indeed extremely nice quality. I too thought 925 was silver but it threw me a bit as it certainly appears gold??? Not sure why. regards

Hi,
The marks indicate post-1998 manufacture, and the rolling catch would suggest more modern manufacture, certainly a thing of quality though |

I seem to remember that this was a post Gulf War ! buy by the regimental officers who had served in Kuwait for their wives.

It is the Stafford’s first Gulf war wives and Sweet Harts broach officially issued by the regiment.
I have a couple in my collection not seen that often. Regards Stephen |
