Default Help Identifying Cap Badge

I need help identifying the regiment to which the man in the photo belonged to. I have trawled the internet for anything resembling his cap badge but cannot find a thing!

The photo was taken by the Seaman company based in Yarmouth and Colchester.

This could be a member of the Gilbert family of Great Bowden, Leicestershire of which there were many sons. The only son I know who was in WWI was John Gilbert who sadly died in 1918 who belonged to the Bedfordshire Regiment.
