HI John,
I have one of these badges but as yet no firm identification.
My current thinking is that they are for civilians in the pay/accounts office at Defence HQ, Wellington, circa ww2.

Hi Barry

I am wondering if the NZ War Service badge is similar to the Australian War Service that was issued in 1916 to civilians working for the AIF in its London Headquarters? It is definitely a civilian badge but maybe WW1 rather than WW2?

Guys,
it looks very similar to the New Zealand Army Pay Corps badge, which lends itself to Barry's theory.

All the best
James.

Hi James

That NZAPC badge was first used in 1917 (have had dated images showing it worn the by NCO). I agree with John's theory as the most likely. Also being UK made adds to that theory. Many WW2 Home service unit worn badges (EPS, FSA, HG, WWSA, WNSC, SVP, GVP, American Red Cross, NZTS) were all locally made, as expected

Hello Craig,

Yes, you are right. I also went back to this thread
https://www.britishbadgeforum.com/fo...and+army+corps

which I hadn't followed to the end, and which explains these (attached) Gaunt marked collars.
I am aware too that there is a Gaunt marked Cap Badge, but have yet to successfully obtain.

Good old Iain (puk) also helped at the time with the attached pic which is Matt Pomeroy's, of 50123 Walter Thomas Roots.

Sorry to hijack the thread John.

All the best
James.
