Default Prize tankards, pewter tankards, plated tankards

A new thread for fellow collectors of tankards with military connections, engraved inscriptions relating to named individuals and anything else of interest. Please feel free to upload examples of your own.

Plated tankards are difficult to photograph without the camera or photographer's hand being visible in the picture so please excuse the quality of some of these pictures.

The first one is a prize tankard awarded by the 18th Middlesex Rifle Volunteers to Pte. William Kiff for attendence at drill, July 1866.

Very nice and it is good to see that they have survived. I go through boxes of pewter tankards that one dealer has collected to take for scrapping. I have got him to put those with a military connection to one side and have managed to save a few over the years.

I am not sure if the 2nd Btn London Scottish were anywhere near Chepstow in 1941 though.

It seems that he was commissioned into the Royal Engineers.

Good to see another example and interesting to see that they kept the same unusual design of tankard going year after year. They must have had a particular supplier of tankards or they just put in a very big order the first year.
