As already stated, there were some absolute bargains to be had.

I was particularly interested in some of The London offerings, but silly me left it too late to bid, (coupled with not searching County of London on the site) and looking retrospectively at the hammer prices..............in my opinion there were several bargains amongst these.

Keith, the Harrow Rifles pouch badge went for £120 I think...............a very nice item.

Well done to those who did bid successfully.

Regards.

Brian

Default STROUD NEWFOUNDLAND BADGES

The Newfoundland ones did not look good and went for too much money. I wouldn't have touched any of them with a barge pole. Sure they will end up on the net listings with all the other crap Newfoundland badges that have turned up recently.

I was rather pleased with the Flint and Denbigh Yeo bi-metal that I won.

I see Emerson has some listed on ebay already. I would advise being careful with some of the Hussars badges in particular - the all brass 3 DG one is not one I would pay any money for as I don't believe that an all brass one was in use in WW1. The broad feathers are seen on several suspect badges.

Likewise a genuine Lancashire Fusiliers TF is in my TF album for reference. There were some fakes made many years ago with a unique construction and completely erased tablet.

I don't know who the original collector was but his collection did include a significant number of fakes.

I agree Alan. The 3DG has a very regular and modern looking slider, certainly not one I’d have in my collection. Nor would I have the all GM Lancs Fusiliers TF in my collection.

Also the all GM Worcestershire Hussars listed and described as being 1916-18 isn’t. The all GM badge was worn from 1908 on the khaki caps.

Whilst there were a lot of fakes in the auction there were also some real gems. I’m very happy with my WM QOWH, this was worn on the scarlet cap with blue uniform from 1908-12 when the BM badge was introduced.

Sorry to hear that Simon. Surely they would have sent it recorded/SD or tracked and insured by courier?
Regards,
Luke

Luke,

Yes,. Special Delivery with enhanced insurance so I will not lose out financially but there were quite a few additions to the collection amongst them which I wanted I am afraid.

It may just turn up but I doubt it.

regards

Had a couple of issues last year with Royal Mail. The most recent was when they left a card when we were out and so we arranged redelivery online, all confirmed by them. Nothing arrived on the agreed day, nothing at the sorting office when we went to check. What is even more annoying is they then made us feel like it was our fault, not even an apology!

One day, about two weeks later, some random stranger walked up our drive and popped it through the door - obviously the Royal Mail had redelivered it to the wrong address, so thank goodness for the honesty of that stranger.

I always send anything important by Special Delivery. I thought it was sacrosanct - clearly not.

I hope your package turns up safe and sound soon, Simon, I have everything crossed for you.
