Isle of Man Home Guard QC cap badge
Hi all, can anyone tell me about this cap badge, what period was it worn? when did the unit disband (assuming it did?) was it replaced by any other unit? Been unable to find anything online.
Many thanks Tony |

Sorry, some further questions? if it was active 1951-1957, it was obviously not part of the wartime Local Defence Volunteers/Home Guard (active 1940-44), so do you know what sort of formation it was? Part of the British Army, militia, TA/TAVR or some kind of civil defence?
Any information gratefully received. Regards Tony |

In the HG second phase, 1950's as indicated with the threat from Russia it was felt reinstating the HG was a good idea. Unfortunately, it did not get the participation as was seen in WW2.
There were changes to their badges in the second phase, primarily that the shoulder title and county plus number were in white on red. The county number patch had a rubbery like backing. and the text was very much like a sprayed on slightly fuzzy style, not embroidered. Also, not all of the units that had a unique badge in WW2 continued to use the unique badge and just adopted the local regular army units badge. Hope this helps, Terry |

LDV/HG raised in May 1940, stood down December 1944, disbanded December 1945. Reformed December 1951, disbanded July 1957.

Hoot, Terry, fantastic, many thanks! In49 years of collecting/studying British militaria and 30+ years in the service of her majesty and I had no idea there ever was a second phase to the Home Guard! Nearest I ever knew of anything Home guard like, was the Home Service Force in the late 80's/Early 90's.
Many thanks Tony |
