Two EllR badges
Hello all, just purchased these two badges. have a couple of questions. The RLC badge is a heavy guage white metal badge with a brass coloured wash. Are badges for this unit usually light staybrite ones as the unit was not formed until 1993? It weighs twice as much as an equivalent sized badge. It has a slider marked Firmin. Also is the Dragoons badge genuine?
Thanks in advance for any advice. John |

The RLC has had a number of different cap badges since its formation. Yours is fine, except the slider has been clipped.
Not sure on the RSDG,I'm sure one of the Cavalry experts will offer an opinion. |

RLC is the third and current issue pattern. The badges do not wear well!
SCOTS DG is probably a PRI item but within the regiment it is preferred to the issue anodised version for wear in the beret. Often seen with the wreath and eagle's chest well polished. Tim

This particular RLC badge dates from April 2018 for the Corps 25th Anniversary and was issued 1 per soldier.
As a 'Beret Only' Corps for OR's each solder is in fact issued 2 berets & badges during training. OR's badges are often clipped to it can be worn lower in the beret! Dress No2 Caps are only issued to WOII's & Training Staff and uses the OR's Cap Badge. On several occasions such as Windsor Castle or Buckingham Palace Guards 'All Ranks' have been issued with No2 Dress Caps from a central loan pool same as No1 Dress for the occasions. WO1's & Officers wear a Khaki FSD Cap or Coloured Service Dress Cap with a Officers Cap Badge. Last edited by Mike_2817; 29-01-21 at 09:19 PM. |
