York Rangers Regt. Canada Mazeas M.25.
Hello..I am looking for some information on the York Rangers Cap Badge OR. I noticed the photo under current projects . The badge looks different then the photo showing in Mazeas..the steam at the bottom of the leaf is different and the space between the crown and the other side of the leaf is different..The photo in the gallery looks to be a larger badge then the one in Mazeas..
I have a York Rangers badge looks like the one in the gallery but mine is not maker marked Scully. Also the one I have the medal is thin which seems different then other badges made in that time period.. Was the York Rangers cap badge ever made as a repo..I can not seem to find any info where it was ever made as a repo... Thanks Mike |

I'm not aware of reproduction York Rangers badges. There are both unmarked and Scully marked badges, and also a smaller variant. The example of the small badge I have seen is a two-piece brass badge. Both large and small versions are shown in the post-1920 Canadian badge gallery on this site.
Mazeas seems to have kind of blown it in drawing this badge; he's sort of half way between the two. The small badge leaf stem is long and curves sharply to the left, while the larger badge's leaf stem is a very short, straight stub. The finishes for the larger badge are quite varied, from brass to browned brass to toned brass, so I'd imagine the material thickness amongst the various types differs as well.
