Gilt or just gilding metal finish
Can I please sense check this with somebody this badge looks to be just gilding metal finish not gilt what do you think please?

I'd say gilding metal as gilt would be brighter.

Thanks gents I’m inclined to think it’s gilding metal. I’ve got some similar cast badges that just seem to be a lovely colour but they are not gilt.

It’s also not officers like the eBay listing title. Every NY officer’s badge I’ve seen has the makers mark impressed into the cypher. Learning from Keith Hook there was only one regimental outfitters for the NY, Stones in Norwich and all the officer’s badges in his collection were obtained from them and have a stamped mark.
IMO it’s a nice early ORs badge. Many early OR Yeo badges did have Gaunt plaques. Which is what I believe this is. Again seller knows this, told him by PM but doesn’t seem to have made it onto the listing... |
