Cap badge identification
Hi, can anyone identify the badges from the two soldiers in this photograph please? The man sitting down is a family member, from South London, Charlton/Woolwich area. His surname was POWELL, think maybe James (?). Many thanks

The cap badges are 20th Battalion, The London Regiment (Blackheath and Woolwich).

The badge above the wound badges looks like the "LG" within wreath.

I agree with Leigh. It looks very much like LG = Lewis Gunner.

A check for James Powell in the 20th London's shows quite a few J Powell's in the London Regiment, I can't search on the 20th Bn, so perhaps somebody can narrow the search?

There are seven medal index cards for soldiers with the name James Powell with various or no other following initials, serving in the various battalions of the London Regiment.
The battalions represented are 3rd, 8th, 12th, 18th, 22nd, 24th and 28th. None of the James Powells appear to have served with the 20th battalion. |

This from a good friend with a keen interest in the 20th. Taken from the history of the 2/20th confirming the 2 wound stripes he is wearing in the photo. Can’t find him on the medal roll yet!!
