Artillery Volunteers silver?
I Picked up this yesterday, thinking it was wm with an a fixed wheel, I liked the badge but not the 3 lugs rather than 2, after trying to give it a light clean to get the dirt off it still looked a bit grey but also seemed to glitter a bit in places so this afternoon I gave it a brush with silver dip on the front and immediately revealed a nice bright silver badge, my question is this a die stamped silver officers badge of the period or a later and more modern fake, the bright patches on the rear are where my fingers supported the badge and the silver dip got on the back.

It is more usual to find them with 2 or 3 blades, but loops are good to.

If it was mine I would have placed it as a Pouch badge.

Definately not. Always 3 screw posts on a pouch badge particularly pre-1908 ones.

A very nice find and now confused? If you find Artillery badges with the Orb above the Crown I thought it was a sign of a copy? the Orb having to be inset of the Crown? Hope I haven't gotten rid of these now!!!

Billy,
In one series of fakes, known as the 'Tall Orb' type the orb on top of the crown is disproportionately high off the crown and looks pretty stupid. They are easy to spot. All the current 'named scroll' Artillery badges on ebay have it. these of course are just the latest type of fakes. regards
