Leinster-lugs
I think this badge is probably OK- but unusual placement of the lugs. Any thoughts? Regards, Paul.

Looks nice. See what you mean about the lugs. But I think somewhere on here I'm sure I read something about lug location on a Leinster badge.
I would have still snapped it up, standard lugs or not. Regards Simon. |

I like the back but not the front!

I think this is one that I was thinking of going for. I just decided it was too early for me.

Yes, its not the best example of a strike when you look close-you can see light around the H. Glad it's not the back you don't like though. No mention of it having lugs or sweat holes on ebay, just a bad front picture that I took a chance on. R close to the edge as is usually good.

Only image of similar loop placement on the forum I can find is one with no sweat holes.

For someone who doesn't collect infantry badges I have a few examples to The Leinster. It looks like the badge you have is a maker variation from the one I have from that period, and it looks good from here. As I say, I'm no expert though on this unit.

Cheers Garry. Not come across anything other than the close lugs 4 sweat hole version before so interesting to see these variations. Regards, Paul

hello
first my apologies for my hesitant English i am a french collector and unfortunatly my school years are far i bought recently a leinster cap badge with a very similar fault to the one on the first badge posted in this thread 2 pins holes around the "H" of "THE" with a slight deformation , in addition a little cross on the coronet has been lost i thought it was a micro battle damage but maybe it's "only" a manufacturing fault shortened slider with crimp mark and a hand engraved mark between the braze holes of the scroll, maybe "IV" found with other ww1 cap badges assumed brought back by a french ww1 veteran as souvenirs regards christophe Last edited by verdun; 03-10-18 at 06:04 PM. |

A superb example, I think I'd buy that just for the fault, the clipped slider is not unusual, but, still nice to see, a lovely badge, do you find many British Army cap badges these days?

thank for your comment
" do you find many British Army cap badges these days?" no unfortunatly, because i try to avoid to buy badges coming from the world of collection, many of french collections have been made in the 70's 80's so ............ i am most interested in collections of the 20's and 30's finding badges which one can be nearly sure they are ww1 vintage is not very easy(unless for me) but some French soldiers had the good idea to collect the insignia of their British comrades and that's what's insterests me especially souvenir belts |
