43rd Wessex Brigade
This lovely badge was part of a whole range of items belonging to a R Hamps officer. It appears to be hallmarked silver but can anyone fill me in on who would have worn it, why solid silver, etc.

Not 43 Wx bde but the Wessex Regt TA 1968-92 or the Royal hants when they were part of the Wessex Bde 1958-68. If your man was RHants then it could have been either depending on when he served. Regular soldiers attached to the TA Wessex Regt wore Wessex Regt badges. I presume that it was for a peaked cap.

Wessex regiment
I was in 2 Wessex 81 - 83 and OR's had staybright badges with sliders on the back. Suspect this is an officer's cap badge.
BTW regulars posted as PSIs (permanent staff instructors) wore their parent regt badges. We had mainly DERR regs but our CO (Eddie Churcher) was a Gloster. Prof Richard Holmes later became CO. |
