Default 43rd Wessex Brigade

This lovely badge was part of a whole range of items belonging to a R Hamps officer. It appears to be hallmarked silver but can anyone fill me in on who would have worn it, why solid silver, etc.

Not 43 Wx bde but the Wessex Regt TA 1968-92 or the Royal hants when they were part of the Wessex Bde 1958-68. If your man was RHants then it could have been either depending on when he served. Regular soldiers attached to the TA Wessex Regt wore Wessex Regt badges. I presume that it was for a peaked cap.

Default Wessex regiment

I was in 2 Wessex 81 - 83 and OR's had staybright badges with sliders on the back. Suspect this is an officer's cap badge.

BTW regulars posted as PSIs (permanent staff instructors) wore their parent regt badges. We had mainly DERR regs but our CO (Eddie Churcher) was a Gloster. Prof Richard Holmes later became CO.

Dad would be pretty upset that you had him down as a Gloster ! He was of course Royal Hampshire !! He had previously been 2IC of DERR in Osnabruk. Richard was his 2IC and later CO, and became Colonel of the Royal Hampshires. There were a number of hallmarked silver cap badges made about that time, I think Maj Spanner organised them as far as I can recall.
