I think you raise an excellent point.

I’m sure it would be possible to find a skilled sewer, source natural fibres and produce something very similar with plenty of change from £2.3k.

I think when there’s no real accepted standard pattern or manufacture method (other than handmade) it’s an area of the hobby which is open to exploitation by the unscrupulous, especially with such sums being exchanged.

None of that is meant as a comment on the authenticity of the badge in the OP.

Sometimes I think metal badge collecting is a doddle compared to things like this…
