I'm not gloating... honest!
Many's the lunchtime I have ventured out of the office in search of nothing more than a frothy coffee and a chunky KitKat, only to end up parting company with more lolly than I had intended, after spotting a 'must have' badge on a grimy board in some dealer's dusty window.
It would not be an exaggeration to state that seeking badge bargains among the back streets, flea markets, charity shops and antique dealers of London Town, might nowadays be something of a lost art, and could possibly be more accurately described as an exercise in futility. However, the occasional coup is still possible, and the odd 'steal' can still be found, albeit (in my experience) rarely. Here are yesterday's finds, which cost me the princely sum of £11 (£5 and £6, respectively). Should I have perhaps attempted to haggle with the stall holder and get him down to a tenner, I wonder? That KRRC is worth a small fortune if it is what I think it is?

Going out on a limb here, but neither look right to me.
In particular i don't like the back of the KRRC and the lugs on the GG just don't do it for me at all. |

I'll be happy to take the KRRC off your hands if you decide you don't like it!

I'm sure I've read somewhere on here about those lug locations on the KRRC. Not saying they are wrong, but an odd position as I would imagine the badge would flip up.

Hi Peter,
A case of fingers crossed with the T-E-K badge for the time being. I don't know if this badge has been faked but nothing would surprise me given the prices asked for them recently. It's not long to go until Sunday and I think the badge will enjoy an outing to Winchester! Here is an image of the reverse of my badge (KK674) (loops replaced). In comparison I do see Noodles' point of concern but don't give up hope, you could still have an absolute bargain. As for the other badge, not my bag but those loops also arouse my suspicions mate. I hope I'm wrong. Regards Ry Last edited by Charlie585; 04-06-12 at 02:57 PM. |

Gents,
Thank you very much indeed for your opinions. This is precisely why this forum is such an invaluable resource for us all. I'll post a few more snaps of the backs presently. Thanks again, blokes. Peter. |

Hi Peter
Not sure about the KRRC because of the lugs, but like the Grenadiers, looks like genuine modern day WO's to me well done. Best regards Neil |

Hi All
I'm going to go out on a limb and say the KRRC looks good to me. The rear has that aged look, and I really don't see the fakers putting lugs in anything but regular E-W or N-S positions as they would know this would stick out as an obviously question mark. I think it must be a makers variation. Cheers, Alex |

Peter,
the GREN GDS is as said above the modern issued Staff (WOs) badge. I'd also be more than happy with the KRRC, the lug position is typical of the period and when you bear in mind the badge it replaced, the lug array/position would accommodate a one for one replacement with little damage to the headdress.. It's a "Good Un" as far as I would say! Andy |

Once again, gents, thanks very much indeed for your replies.
Personally, I too think both are good 'uns, but there wouldn't be much point in me being a member of this forum if I did not value and consider the opinions and comments of fellow members. Super stuff, as ever. All the best, Peter |
