Mercian Volunteer's stripes.
This may be of interest to some collectors, in the 70's the Mercian Volunteers used to colour their stripes and crowns in orange, to achieve this a orange Staedtler pencil was used.

Do you know why? Perhaps to dull down the white against the dpm of the brassard?

I don't know for sure Tim, but l think you are right. Stripes on No2's were white.
