Your most unusual regimental item ?
I have shown this before, a chair of the 1st Volunteer Battalion, South Lancashire Regiment( presumably from a Mess ) but I do wonder what is the most unusual regimental item that members have in their collections ?
P.B.

Hi Peter,
Lovely to see this again, unusual ? undoubtedly but desirable, o yes..! I don't have many odd-ball items and like you mine has been shared here before but still very much a favorite, so here you go: A small burl walnut wooden box, possibly for snuff or calling cards. The front of which has a very small but skillfully made silver KSLI badge affixed. Engraved on the case is "1894 Hong Kong 1st Bat". A small label on this inside reads "Plague Lasted 5th May - 3rd Sept". This box appears to be one of the gift given out after the Hong Kong plaque of 1894, where the 1st Battalion KSLI volunteered so admirably under difficult circumstances. Cheerio, Roy

This is the most incredible piece of Australian militaria I have ever seen. It is a painted truncheon for the Australian WW1 GCC (German Concentration Camp).
Camps were set up to guard German enemy aliens who were interned: Holsworthy NSW for ordinary Germans, Trial Bay on the north coast for German intelligentsia, and Berrima for POWs like the Emden crew. The GCC was one of the most unusual Australian military units. I have a photo of a squad of really tough guys (the kind you would want to have on your side in a brawl) wearing the GCC badges and armed with Long Lee Enfields & bayonets and leather bandoliers. Their GCC hat and collar badges are rare, this item must be unique. |

Japanese POW artwork
Hi All,
I have a carved wooden plaque carved by a Japanese prisoner of war in Featherston Camp, New Zealand. I've been told that the prisoners were not allowed knives, chisels and suchlike and that this sort of carving was done with nails. I have shown the NZ Onward hat badge to show relative size. Cheers, Tinto |

A regimental marked compact is perhaps my most unusual item. Though I am not sure if it truly counts as a regimental item in the way Peter means.

Perhaps this flag is more inline with what Peter wanted to see?

hi guys
some interesting items. good thread. thanks peter for starting it. ive got several unusual items but i think this is worthy of showing again. Amongst my collection of 30th btn NSW Scottish items is this awesome quaich, which probably belonging to the pipe major. A quaich is (A quaich /ˈkweɪx/, archaically quaigh or quoich, is a special kind of shallow two-handled drinking cup or bowl in Scotland.) ive actually just enjoyed a few whiskeys, some good Scotch and few great Aussie. bc |

2 Armd Div
Not regimental, but very unusual. GOC 2 Armd Div's staff car pennant, gifted to his RASC Driver (Dvr Ken Pembroke) when the Division sailed for Egypt in November 1940. 2 Armd Div was "overwhelmed in Rommel's first advance in March-April 1941 and ceased to exist as a formation." 2 Armd Div was not reformed. 99th AA Reg't London Welsh
Whilst I have a small number of mess silver items this is one of my favourites. Unusually for me this is a 2WW mess plated silver sauce boat to the 99th London Welsh Heavy Anti Aircraft Reg't RA.

Another from me, large tabletop matchbox with bronze South Wales Borderers badge on it. Makers mark dates it to c.1912.
Said by others to probably be from the sgt's mess.
