Genuine WW2 Aiborne Pegasus Patch?
The photos attached are of a patch I recently acquired. I was guaranteed that this was a genuine WW2 patch with the option of returning it if I was not satisfied. I would appreciate the views of our more experienced members out there. I know very little about Airborne Insignia of WW2. The rear of the patch is a black material.British Airborne (Pegasus) Patch.jpg

Genuine WWII Airborne Pegasus Patch?
Hi Timburlin,
I personally am concerned about the authenticity of the British Airborne Forces Formation Badge you have shown. In this same forum category (Airborne, Elite, etc.) please see my two replies to markinbelfast on his thread titled, 'Just what is it?'. I know this may not be good news, but at least hopefully new knowledge. Regards, Jim |

I'm not an expert but I can see that it has been worn, you can see where the imprint of the thread is still visable. That in itself may not mean much because it could be worn by re-enactors. So Jim I am looking to you also for some insight as to what is it that dosen't look right. Ray

Airborne Forces Pegasus Badge
Hi boots and saddles and timburling,
I think the following elements of the formation badge should be considered in comparison with what I think are a few righteous badges; • Bellerophon’s legs are too long and ill-defined • Pegasus’ tail too thin coming off the body • Shape of the spear and where it passes through the wings not the same • Ill-defined ribbons coming off the spear • Pegasus’ legs and hoofs ill-defined • Spear is bent • Shape of spear head is different • Pegasus’ wings not graceful and ill-defined • Pegasus’ head badly shaped • Bellerophon’s head badly shaped • Bellerophon’s body ill-defined I'm including a few images that I believe to be genuine for direct comparison. Hope they will display well, and that the differences are apparent. The first thumbnail is a direct comparison between a reproduction (on left) and genuine article (on right), and I'm not even sure of these because of the difference being limited to the tip of Pegasus' wing on the left patch. Would welcome any critique or additional assessments. Regards, Jim Last edited by Arnhemjim; 25-09-08 at 04:37 AM. Reason: Additional data |

Are they not of the type worn by the Belgian para commando unit, which is a similar badge but different in construction.

Tim, I give this badge a thumbs up. This particular design comes with a number of different backings.
Belgian SAS wore various patterns btw. |

I would guess that the original Pegasus Patch is a hand sewn one and not issue. 1959 to 1961 when we wore BD.some of the lads had all hand made insignia on uniforms they wore whilst on leave. Frowned on whilst in barracks. This is what I believe this one could be.

Para Badges
Hi All: My dad just passed away last year, I know he served in the Sini, and Cyprus back in the 1950s. Would anyone have a large picture of the proper Para badge from that time. Thanks G.J.
