AIRFORCE BADGES & BUTTONS FOR I.D.
hi all
i was showing a friend of mine these items the other day and he said they were WW1 RNAS? he justified this statement by saying they didnt look like RAF eagles or buttons. i know, not much hard evidence there, so over to you all. i must admit i hadnt even noticed, but can anyone confirm what service they belong to, where the eagles would have been worn and what period they are? thanks in advance bc |

The eagles that face left and right look the same as the South African Air Force Second World War badges that were worn above the chevrons. Numbers 1500 and 1501 in Colin Owen's book. I am not sure on the rest. Regards Andrew

Hi badgecollector,
The buttons (i.e. rope rim with crown above eagle) are ROYAL NAVAL AIR SERVICE (RNAS). However, I am unable to help with the other badges though. Sorry. Cheers Ian |

RNAS
the eagles with the 3 posts are rnas ,worn on both sleeves on the blue uniform hence opposite facing eagles.
a single eagle was worn over the pocket on the karki uniform. the small eagle worn on the eppaulette, although i think the rnas didn't have a crown,so its pobably a bit later when they became raf |

The small eagles are used on officers shoulder boards pre '53.
