RDG anodised & 'new metal'

Dear All, I have a lot of variant RDG badges & trying to work out order when worn -

Anodised SNCO small, no 'enamel', Firmin, London (do small sized enamel exist other than in new metal?)

Chrome look 'White' metal - enamel, Firmin, full red cross type, ie red enamel around flag.

'officers' new metal, 3D type, quite thick, in Hodges as private purchase or PRI type, Fimin 'written' in arch shape

Beret or collar ditto but 'straight' Firmin, lugs

Chrome look new metal & enamel, no red anamel around flag, no maker

Chrome look new metal but no enamel or maker

Traditional white metal, no enamel, Firmin London on brass slider, all slider above metal as per badges

Heavy white metal?, looks like unmarked silver, blackening heavily, lugs, no maker...one might say officers or SNCO's quality?

I understand some of the above may not be 'issue' or PRI, please advise...

At one point I had a collection to the regiment and the following is what I perceived to be the sequence from correspondence with other collectors, a member of the regiment and publications. Although I sold these I would be happy to know of any corrections.


A = All Ranks Cap Badge, The 3rd pattern, 3-Piece badge, frosted finish, this one with a shallow boss, loops, F&S Maker mark. I am told this was introduced 1995.

B = Other Ranks Cap Badge, The 1st pattern A/A badge, Slider , Firmin. Pattern 24609, Cat no. 8455-99-978-8546.

C = Officers Cap Badge, The 3rd pattern, 3-Piece badge, silver star, large domed boss quite different to "A" , loops, F&S Maker mark

D = Other Ranks Collar Badge, First issue A/A Collars , Pattern 24611, Cat no 8455-99-978-8548 Sealed 3/9/92.

E = Other Ranks Cap Badge, The 2nd pattern badge, improved, note the blue scroll with “Inniskilling” and compare it to K where the scroll is not coloured Blue. Slider Firmin. I am told it appeared c. 1994.

F = Officers Collar Badge, Officers 3 piece collar badges.

G = Officers Collar Badge, A lacquered A/A collar badge, I am told Officers wore lacquered A/A collars when first introduced in 1992.

H = All Ranks Collar Badge, Improved enameled collar badges, Inniskilling on a blue background.

I = Officers Cap Badge, A die cast star, lacquered with loops. As 'G" I am told this was the officer’s first pattern badge.

J= Senior NCO Badge, The regimental rank badge, Worn with backing by WOs in no 1, 2 and mess dress but only in no. 2 dress by Sgts.

K= Other Ranks Cap Badge, The 2nd pattern star, enameled, this version on slider by London Badge & Button Company. Note Inniskilling on a WM scroll. Compare to E.

L = Other Ranks Pouch Badge, The star worn on the soldier’s no.2 dress leather pouch per British Army Badges by Lt Col. Robin Hodges page 29.

M = Senior NCO Badge, The regimental badge worn on the lower left arm by senior ranks in Nos 1, 2 and mess dress.

N = Senior NCO Cap Badge, Senior Ranks first pattern beret badge, slider Firmin. Pattern 24610. Cat no. 8455-99-978-8547

O = Officers Cap Badge, Badge worn by officers in Side cap and in pairs as the mess dress collar badge

P = Other Ranks Cap Badge, A chromed badge on slider by London Badge & Button – almost certainly an unofficial commission. Not known if ever worn and/or sold through the PRI

Q = Other Ranks Cap Badge As P but un-named slider
