WW1 13th Bn Cheshire (Wirral) Regt insignia info please.
One of my G/Grandad's served with this Bn raised in Port Sunlight 1914. I have found a lot of info on this Bn and his service record but sadly have no insignia except a Bi-metal Cheshires Cap Badge.
Was there a Shoulder title 13/Cheshire, I doubt very much there was a T as they were not Territorial- can anyone please confirm. Also was there any distintictive Insignia to them I should be looking for. Thanks in advance for any help Paul |

Paul,
I think the answer is probably no but one item that I regret selling was a tin badge I had which was made for the 10th Bn. Cheshire Regiment before the issue of Cheshire Regiment badges. The badge was about an inch in diameter and comprised an "X" ( for tenth ) and either an acorn or oak leaf. It was a similar idea to the badge worn by the 6th South Wales Borderers. Stupidly not only did I sell the badge but didn't even keep a photo. There might have been something similar for the 13th Cheshires. Peter

I'm from Wallasey Paul so I have an interest as well. There is a FB page called "Wirral Military Memories" and the 13th Bn comes up a lot. A lad called Peter Threlfall from Birkenhead is a regular poster on there and is an authority on the Cheshires in general and the 13 Bn in particular. He is planning to publish his 30 years of research into the Cheshires in WWI in the new year. Got to be worth a look?

I have today sent an email to the Port Sunlight Museum who have been doing research on the original 700 Volunteers from Lever Bros 'where my G/Grandad worked and enlisted on 4/9/1914, he also has a second entry on his record for the 7/9/1914 this date ties in with the recent 100th anniversary event that depicted the Train journey from P.Sunlight and the march from Chester station to the Castle something I did not know that happened unfortunately. I have found the FB page in a previous search but will go back and have a better look/search. Peter Threlfall's name rings a bell- does he do comprehensive research on WW1 Cheshire Regt soldiers? Thankyou again John. Just checked again it wasnt 'wirral military memories' it was wirral remembers ww1 fb page I looked at, the WMM page is a closed group so just waiting on acceptance. I have been collecting to the Cheshire's for quite a few years and have never came across any special S/T to a particular battalion other than the TF and Cadets. A Manx company which was part of the Cheshire's had the Legs of Man in a circle and I have quite a few photos of men wearing OR's acorn collar badges above their S/T, I think these would have been worn by some service battalions, but which I don't know.
