Default QVC KRRC in WM and GM?

Going through my hoard yesterday I re-discovered a Victorian King’s Royal Rifle Corps cap badge in GM.

The badge has a gilded factory finish to it which is also evident in part on the reverse albeit it has got damp at some stage and tarnished most of the back.

I also recently acquired another QVC KRRC in WM.

Neither KK or Gaylor mention the QVC KRRC as being anything other than BB.

Does anyone have any information or thoughts on either mystery badge?

Could the GM badge have lost its blacking or a least have had what was remaining removed chemically by an over-zealous collector? It is not entirely uncommon to find an erstwhile blackened badge reduced to its naked self - and as they are divested of paint they often go an unusual colour.

I have three of the small Tel-El-Kebir badges - QVC and KC - and interestingly though all have reasonable blacking to the front they have a similar two-tone appearance in varying degrees to your GM's rear.

I'd say it's probably a busby badge. I have a couple with and without the crown attached.

No it’s not been chemically stripped nor is it an unfinished badge in my belief Mark.

You can see the sheen from the plate (just) in my pics, in the flesh it’s even more evident but my iPhone’s camera automatically dulls the reflection from it down making it less evident.

As you can see it’s come off the high points and flat surfaces to a degree but is still intact around the fine lettering, recesses and edges.

The back as I believe got damp accounting for the colour of the majority of it but you can still see the gold finish in places.

Thanks Keith. Hadn’t even thought of that. Would that be the WM badge or both?

Greetings Luke.

I think it's a load of rubbish and I am now going to start a KRRC collection of unknown badges..

Please send it to me.

Regards.

Brian

I was thinking more of the white metal one.

Yes a lot shinier in the latest photo's.

Am I right in that the three you show are the smallest of the KRRC badges? I though the busby badge was a bit larger, but I certainly appreciate knowing that if that is the line of thinking.
Cheers
Mark

Thanks Brian and Keith. For all the pitfalls of our hobby and the fakery sometimes a leap of faith in an unknown item is fun and ultimately worthwhile!

Yes it’s just the normal small sized one Mark.
