Default Unknown badge

My Dad left me a tin of war badges he had collected over 70 years. Can someone identify this one for me? It hasn't been cleaned but is silver in colour. Crown, wreath and several initials I can't understand. Thanks

It is a Victorian or earlier period badge, I think - based on the crown and the general design. I think I can make out 'L' and 'V' and there is a third letter I can't ID - possibly a 'C' or a "T'.

I'd guess, therefore that it is the "X Volunteer X", probably one of the hundreds of British militia/territorial units raised in the 19th century. How big is it? [I wonder if it might be a belt plate].

My tuppence worth.

It is a very large silver badge. Not a belt badge. It has 3 brass links on the back. One at the top and two - one either side - for pins. Just over 2.5 inches tall and just over 2 inches wide. The badge is made of two pieces. The backing and then the crown, wreath and initials are joined onto the backing. I have cleaned and polished it. Looks beautiful, but would love to know the history of this one to put in my little museum. I have attached two new photos of the badge cleaned and polished. Thanks.

It is the monogram of the Suffolk Artillery Volunteers.

From its shape and size I would say a Pouch Belt Plate. Does it have screw posts to the rear?

Originally silvered which appears to have worn off.

regards

Simon, if you look at the two new photos I posted - I have cleaned the badge - it is silver (it was just dirty in the original photo). Do you know what year it is? I cannot find anything like it on the internet. Thanks.

Its cleaned up very well. Clearly unmarked silver.
As I thought with 3 screw posts and a backing plate, typical Pouch Belt Plate.

Could be any date from 1859 to 1902, probably never changed.

regards

Presumably 'NRV' for Norfolk Rifle Volunteers.

Once Simon said 'Suffolk...' the 'SVI' does rather jump out at one. Well spotted, sir. And at that size and with those fittings, a pouch belt plate seems right.

A lovely, lovely thing! [drools quietly to self].

Happy 2020 all!
